Do you HAVE to let go of the gas/acceleration pedal while you clutch?

Naqeeb R. Says: You have to feather the pedal, you do not have to come all the way off as long as you shift fast. The problem is that if you stay on the gas and engage the clutch you remove the load from the motor and it over revs, maybe redlining the engine.

Matt Says: It's a good idea because when you let off the gas as you clutch, it slows down the clutch disc so you won't have as much wear on your transmission synchronizers and blocker rings as you shift gears.

Country Boy Says: Errr, yeah. Like I don't want to blow the motor from over revving it. The money for repairs comes out of my pocket.

Doing the Math Says: Yes.. Not at once, but slowly. As you press one, release the other and vise versa.
