Really important question!?
(2011-04-16 14:20:30) 1. Says: ok i took my 99 mustang v6 auto trans to the transmission shop monday and so today he told me that it needs a new torque converter, 2 springs and that was going to cost $120+tax i was already paying $577 to rebuild the transmission (soft parts etc. not hard parts) so i told him go ahead so (i guess) he finished and i went to pick it up today and when i got there i noticed my back bumper was pulled from the bottom like as if got caught onto something and the paint was chipping so i confronted him and he said he didnt do it and i was bullsh** any ways my car was slipping in third gear thats the whole reason i took it there to fix the tranny. ok now while i was diving home not even 30 seconds from his sop it slipped like it did before and i told him and he said it needed a transmission cooler because "the shaveings" from the worn 3rd clutch was cause it to slip.So mt question is does my transmission need a transmission cooler for it not to slip?2. Says: If he rebuilt the transmission then any shavings that were in the tranny would be out already. Sounds like he didn't do the job right. Check your state laws. In Ohio any work done HAS to come with a one year warranty. And for the record a cooler will not help it if it is slipping. Even with you saying he re-built the soft parts the rest should have been checked and cleaned. As for the bumper.... if the damage was not there before you took it to him then he is responsible for the damages.3. Says: If thought there were metal shavings in the cooler but he did not flush it out? if that is true this metal would be sucked into the rebuilt trans causing damage. Let him know you will take him to court. Your car was not damaged in the rear before you dropped it off and your transmission was not fixxed. You have the same problem.4. Says: Sounds Like shotty work. He can flush the existing cooler and should have put new oil in when he worked on it. The shavings should have been cleaned out when he tore into it! Good luck with that one!5. Says: HI
STOP... That guys a joke.... a cooler is not going to stop it from slipping.. He's screwed you over on the rebuild. Tell him your going to take him to court if he does not make this right..
good luck
tim6. Says: get a second opinion from another mechanic... i dont trust him at all!7. Says: HMMmmmmm A ford transmission problem? What a surprise! Humor asside it sounds fishey to me. A cooler is really a Warmer and a cooler. It is called a Heat exchanger. It warms cold fluid and gets it to operating temp quicker and it will keep the fluid from getting hotter than the radiator temp if conditions exist that may cause that such as towing a trailor. If it was clogged up that would affect Line Pressure used to shift and hold clutches in place and could cause slipping. But you state it is only slipping in third? If i am wrong forgive me but most trans are 4 speed autos. My opinion is it would slip in all gears if enough force was applied and line pressure was low.after all clogged is clogged as the heat exchanger has one input and one output line not one for each gear. Take it back and just simply state to the shop to GET IT RIGHT. If they thought it was tell them to think again. Usually when transmission work is done a flush of the exchanger is recomended and can usually detect trouble as low thruput. hope this helps! Tag: Really important question!?
