If the transmission oil is not changed for 200K kms, is there a chance that the transmission would fail?

1. Champ Says: Yes that kind of mileage without service is definitely hard on a transmission. and sadly yes a sudden change to a long time abused transmission could actually trigger a failure notice i said "trigger" a failure not "cause" a failure. the cause is the lack of service for long periods, the failure is most likely all ready there waiting to occur just gets set off by the fluid change. it seems like a tough situation but id recommend changing the filter(if an automatic) and refilling the transmission with the correct new fluid as soon as possible. I would not recommend a flush job as that seems to more frequently trigger failures on abused transmissions. then if everything goes well in a few months or next year service the transmission again with fluid and filter and you'll be back on track to continue with manufacturer recommended service intervals, hopefully this will minimize the damage caused by the lack of service before. Best of luck
2. dan Says: It's lifespan would definitely be shortened. The easiest way to make your transmission last longer is change the fluid regularly.
