For a motor that burns a lot of oil is it better to use thicker oil?

1. Spencer Says: In a 3.0 Chrysler V6 that takes 10w40 instead use 20w50.
2. cory l Says: thicker oil will slow down the consumption but you need to figure out what it is, check your PCV valve if its stuck open it can cause your engine to burn a lot of oil same if its stuck closed, your oil will leak out anywhere and everywhere other than that if its burning its your piston rings, but more common than not its your PCV valve a little $5 PCV valve might solve your problem.
Edit: thicker oil might make your engine "tick" and may cause your engine to fail prematurely as lack of lubrication to bearings also your oil pressure will rise as well and it may actually burn faster (greater pressure) you can try it, it may work and it may not.
3. Michael Says: No. The thicker oil will degrade lubrication to the bearings. You can try Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner, though, in hopes it will free the rings. See the first source for the proper directions and the second source for testimonials from Chevy enthusiasts about this Mopar product.
4. mister ss Says: yes thicker oil will slow the burning process down a little.
5. Hubie Sanders Says: Yes will help but not cure.....add a qt. Of lucas oil treatment at oil change....will help even more....
