My car air conditioer has a small hole, really small, in the tubing can I patch it someway?

1. righton Says: It leaks out the fluid and I do not want to replace the tube. Can it be soldered to patch it? Or should the tubing be replaced because I realize a lot of pressure is on the Air Conditoner.
Thanks
2. Eric Rosenberger Says: Replace the tubing.
3. tercir2006 Says: You are right, the high pressure side has - well - High Pressure. If your patch fails, which is likely, you will have wasted your time and money. Too often I see people resort to quick fixes. They may get them out of a jam, but in the long run, it's cheaper to fix it right the first time. My neighbors van won't start without bypassing the starter circuit. He spent around 20 bucks on a hand trigger used by mechanics when they want to start the engine while being under the hood. He is always going under the van to fix the loose wires that result from his shortcut fix. Really, he probably has a bad relay, or maybe even just a burnt out fuse. But to him it was quicker to throw money at the problem without knowing what was wrong.

He's solved his problem, but the problem still exists. In your case, I'd fix the tube the right way. You can probably get one at a junk yard for REAL cheap.

Just be sure to have the system properly evacuated and recharged. There is a good likelihood you've introduced water into your system, so you may need to replace the dryer as well. Just keep that in mind. ME??? I'd replace the dryer too.

Good luck.

:)
4. Michael S Says: Even if you could patch it, what are you going to do afterward. The system will have to be vacuum down and held to check for any more leaks, then the refrigerant and oil has to go into the system, and this has to be done by weight.
Do you have the equipment to do this?

Anything on the AC system I always recommend taking it to a certified AC technician, the average home mechanic cannot not fix AC.
5. pedro7of9 Says: ignore the tape advice,,replace it,R134 is under a lot of pressure,,any repair that doesnt work just means replacing it and refilling it AGAIN
6. Lex Says: I know that there's a special tape you can use but I'd suggest you call a mechanic or dealership to find out the exact kind.
