Why is my car engine temperature low?
(2011-05-03 14:20:34) 1. Says: hi there, i have a mazda 323, 1984, 200thousand kms on the clock,The problem i have is that the temperature gauge on the dash is sitting really low. its near enough at the bottom of the gauge.
we have replaced the thermostat by a professional mechanic, and he also stated the cars fan was working as it normally should. he said that maybe the car was just really really good at keeping cool?!?!
the car is running well, with generally no engine problems, but im curious to what is giving such a low temperature reading?
i have a spare gauge for the dash, which maybe could sort the problem????
any help appreciated2. Says: There's a sensor on your engine, half of it sits in Anti-Freeze inside your engine.. and the other half sits on the outside of the engine and it's connected to wires that tell your vehicle's computer the temperature of the Anti-Freeze. It's not uncommon for them to go out..
It's a small bolt looking piece, and it's a cheap fix.. about $14.99 for the part, and you can fix it yourself if you know anything about working on cars :)
Good Luck, I hope you figure out the problem !!3. Says: The central question is whether the operating temperature is correct or not. If the engine is running too cool it will drink a lot of gas. When it is warmed up, try gripping the upper radiator hose. It should be too hot to wrap your hand around for more than a fraction of a second. A more accurate test can be done with an infrared touch-less thermometer (they are cheap now, but not free) or even by taping a meat thermometer to the upper radiator hose. If the temperature is not at least 180 degrees (F) the new thermostat is not working right. If it is an aftermarket thermostat I am not surprised; I gave up on ever finding a good one many years ago.4. Says: It is possible for everything to be working at the engine level. The fan will come one as needed, the thermostat will click as needed...
But you may have a borked temp sensor and maybe why you're not getting a correct reading on the dash.
Also possible, the temp sensor is working but the gauge itself is hosed.
Have your mechanic check the temp sensor and the gauge to make sure they're both working. If they are and the rest of the cooling system is working fine...your car may just be really good at keeping cool.5. Says: You should make sure that your operating fluids are all at their proper levels (radiator fluid not overfilled) and on a recent change cycle. If all of this is correct, your mechanic says there is not an identifiable problem, and the engine isn't running poorly, maybe it's time to accept that your engine runs really well and not worry so much. Advanced ignition timing and thicker oil will increase operating temperatures.6. Says: well could be that sumone took out the thermostat. the thermostat opens and closes at certain temps but if its out or stuck open ur car is going to stay really cool. its perpose is to keep engine warm but not let it over heat. when it is cold out the heater wont work if its the thermostat... or u might replace the gauge just to see if it is faulty but im betting more on thermostat u can buy thermostats designed to let engine get warmer before cooling it.7. Says: maybe the thermostat is a fail safe and sitting wide open all the time. maybe it is one that is set to open earlier. maybe the fans are turning on too early.8. Says: I would say that the factory guage is just wore out. I would install the new guage, along with a new sending unit (just to be sure). Factory guages on older cars were never known for their accuracy any way.9. Says: If mechanic gives it the all clear it could be either the sender for the gauge or the gauge itself.10. Says: If its not broke don't fix it. if its not over heating and been checked out don't worry about it. Tag: Why is my car engine temperature low?
