1. emily Says: My sister always obsesses that you must empty your tank unless filling up from the same brand or chain of gas station..

For example if she fills up at Shell she will only refill at the half way mark at shell otherwise she will drive it to empty and fill up then.

My logic is that there is always a little bit of gas when your light comes on so why not fill up at the half way mark if you are going on a long trip and there is no gas station around that has the same gas in your tank?

Does mixing different brands of gasoline effect your mileage? etc
2. Todd Says: After a car becomes a few years old or older, sediment can build up in the bottom of your gas tank. Letting it run down to fumes all the time can cause some of this crap to get sucked up into the fuel line and can eventually cause problems. Not to mention the risk of running out of gas. Also, there is absolutely no problem with mixing different fuel from different stations and brands. Just make sure you use the octane rating (87, 89, 93) that the owners manual calls for.
3. Zozzie Says: your sister is a bit of a knob.
That's like saying that once you've filled your belly with beer, you cannot put wine in, or you'll die.

Using cleaner, better quality fuel is always better for your car, but, mixing BP with Shell with Texaco will make no difference to the performance of your car, if you're making sure not to but the cheap grade stuff.

Be wary of those non brand name stations, though, they basically buy the dregs from each company, when the tanks are all filled and there's still some left in the tanker. That can be dirty stuff.
4. Money Says: No that's stupid. She sounds like a hypochondriac. Tell her to chill the f out. Gas is gas it doesnt make a difference whatsoever its all made the same way. Some stations put additives in it like chevron with techron... But that doesn't mean you can't mix it lol wtf. Your engine determins your mileage not the gas
5. old man on the hill Says: mixing brands of gas shouldn't affect mileage. mixing grades of gas might

comment for money - in general i agree with you. but mixing an 89 octane gas with a 96 octane gas might affect mileage
