1. Adam Holmes Says: i am thinking of starting up a business buying cars and scrapping them, if they are good enough to sell on, do i have to scrap them? and do i need any sort of license to do so? is this a good idea? please tell me more?
2. thenewmeemoon Says: My brother and I did this for a few years. You'll need land for a large storage yard. You'll need a basic shop with plenty of tools. The money in junk cars is in the parts and scrap value. Re-selling the cars as drivers is a LOT of hassle. I wouldn't try that. There's good money in aluminum parts. You can get "core" prices for alternators, old carburators, throttle bodies, starters, etc. You can get real good $$$ for transmissions and engines from re-builders. Radiators are good. You can sell used tires all day long. Window glass can be sold, especially windshields, to glass installers. It's best to strip and scrap the car as quickly as possible. My state, and most states will allow you to apply for a "scrap title" if you have a NOTARIZED bill of sale. We got an offer for our land that we couldn't pass up so we sold out. Good luck!
3. Joshua Says: No you don't have to sell them but you can only have so many in your name at one time with out a dealers license. You just need the cars title or the registration of the car so you can get the title....ALWAYS GET A BILL OF SALE
4. whocares Says: Not if you have a clear title and can find a buyer for the car.

Yes, you are supposed to have a license for pretty much any business.

Not much money in what you are talking about unless you own a junkyard.
