Truck is losing power, begins running stutteringly?
(2011-06-13 14:20:24) 1. Says: Hi!I have a 2000 chevy silverado, I believe its the 2500(3/4 ton) model, V8 and is NOT a 4wd model(apparently they're pretty rare)
When it's first started, It idles fine. As soon as I start driving, it kind of seems to struggle and stutter for maybe a minute before it decides to work alright. It doesn't seem to have a lot of power for a V8. It struggles to pull small trailers, and even itself up some steeper hills. I removed the intake hose that comes from the air filter today to find the inside of the throttle body coated in gunk. I shall be cleaning it all out today. Could this mean that the valves are loose, thus I lose power? After they heat up, the metal expands, and they connect properly could explain why it only struggles for so long.
I have recently changed the spark plugs, and wires. Coils seem to be working alright, all cylinders are firing.
Should I try tightening the rocker arms a little? I hope that cleaning the throttle body and sensors out will solve this problem completely, but it's a long shot. As far as I know, it's never been done on this truck. I'm developing my mechanical skills, and just wanted some input on this. I'm no expert(yet :D )!
Thank you in advance for your opinions,
will provide more info if needed.
Kevin2. Says: I like to try the least expensive fixes first:
Check out your Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valves.
You can also check your Throttle Position Sensor, and Idle Air Control.
