What would it feel like if you were driving and the timing belt went out?

Mysterium Tremendum Says: i was driving and my 93 honda prelude died. it has a spark and i belive it has gas going through.. i think its the timing belt but im not sure... i was wondering what it would feel like if you were driving and the belt went out? thanks

bobweb Says: Here's a test to see if the timing belt is broken. Remove the engine oil fill cap and using a flashlight look down into the hole to see if the engine valves are moving when your friend cranks the engine over. A broken timing belt won't drive the valves. Remove the engine valve cover if necessary.

mdk68gto, ase certified m tech Says: as others mentioned, if you have spark then the belt is fine. yours is an interference engine so if that belt went, you would have a big problem and a large bill to follow.

Michael S Says: It would just die and not start again. If you have spark at the plug it's not the timing belt.
