Should I get a Nissan 350z or Ford Mustang (possibly a GT)?

1. Da Deeker Says: The year for both would be around 2004-2007.

I'm a senior in high school about to go to college.

Overall, I prefer the 350z. The engine, the exterior and interior are real nice. The only thing is it seats only two. The Mustang, however, has a backseat (plus, I know a good amount of people who would most likely ask for a ride often).

It's coin-flip for me. What do you think?
2. Dangerzone Says: I don't know where you live, but every other car around here (MA) is a mustang, two of my best friends own them and both my dad and my uncle owned one (uncle's was a cobra), they get real tired looking over time and boring. Granted, they are pretty quick in a straight line, but life isn't made up of straightaways at the drag strip and terrible suspension leaves a lot to be desired with turns. The pros with the Mustang is that you can make it relatively fast for cheap, and the parts are much cheaper than the Z, the downside is nobody will know the difference because you'll look like every other car on the road and in two years the car will look outdated-especially for those model years.

I own a 2007 350z, IF you go with the Z do your best to get an 07-08 model- they have a significantly more powerful engine than prior years and no real issues to contend with (they had a slave cylinder recall which any dealership will take care of if you fall under it). The 2005-06's had oil burning issues, the 03-04's had tire feathering issues. The 2007-08 Z's will be on par or faster than any stock Mustang of the years you've referenced, even in a straight line. Both the 07-08- Z and the 05-07 Mustangs are highly comparable in terms of performance, both average 13.7 quarter miles with the 350Z slightly edging it with a decent driver (best 1/4 time for a 05-07 mustang stock is 13.3, best for an 07-08 350z is 13.1) .

That said, if all you care about is going fast in a straight line, or cheap ways to make more power, get the Mustang. If you want a car that will keep it's sexy looks for years, handle like a champ, and give you the power when you want it, get a 350z. Keep one thing in mind, the Mustang without a doubt can be made faster for far cheaper than the Z, but the Z if modded properly is one of the most formidable cars on the road. My advice, test drive both, they are comparable but have uniquely different personalities: V8's are known for their low-end around town torque and low rumble, the V-6 in the 350z is an award winning design that offers a sweet exhaust note but really comes alive in the higher RPM's.
