Brake rotor paint-- help?

1. mango_kush Says: I am going to put a pair of new front brake rotors on my car and i want to help prevent rust for as long as possible. I was told that I can brake rotor paint that will help, but when I asked them if it worked on brake rotors that were slotted and drilled they couldnt give me an answer. Other than paint, is there anything I can use to prevent rust of brake rotors?

Has anyone painted a brake rotor that was drilled and slotted and received good results? Any help or suggestions will help.
2. Franks Says: Brake rotors are made of cast iron or stainless steel. Cast iron works better than stainless steel but it will rust after driving in wet conditions. Stainless steel rotors can form a glaze and not work well. Only the part of the rotor that comes in contact with the pads will rust or glaze. The rest of the rotor can be painted or treated with rust preventer. DO NOT PAINT OR TREAT THE ROTOR CONTACT AREA, your brakes will not work. It is not necessary change anything on the rotor.
3. salemcripple Says: Automotive bakes work on friction. So any kind of paint you put on the rotor is going to wear off (probably within the first few stops). Not only that, its going to effect your braking performance pretty bad. I'm thinking whoever told you that was confused, and thought you meant painting your calipers. The friction alone should keep the braking surface clear of rust.
4. bandit_60 Says: you can,t paint brake rotors. the pads would just take the paint off the fist time you hit the brakes. you can paint the calipers but you will need heat resistance paint.
5. superminicars Says: Link may help you on this.

6. Jim B Says: There is no rust on a rotor if you use your brakes, unless you are talking about the edges. Even at that, they will wear out before any significant rust can do any damage to them
