Reattaching a rear-view mirror?
(2011-06-25 14:20:26) 1. Says: Can I use superglue to reattach my rear-view mirror to the windshield?2. Says: Yes, but NO.Super glue works but not well and not for long, Probably the heat.
Auto stores sell a small tube of special glue for about $2 that the factory uses.
Clean the windshield, use a razor blade and scrape the the area free of debris.
I Decide where I want the mirror and mask the area with tape, to assure you put it in the right spot.
Follow the tube directions.3. Says: There's actually a special glue used, super glue or 5 minute epoxy won't cut it. Go to your local auto parts store and get a rear view mirror installation kit. Follow the directions closely or the mirror will only stay in place for a few days before it falls again.
You will need to clean the old glue off with a single edged razor blade and clean the glass with a special solvent that will come with the installation kit. You will also need to be sure to do this when it's not too cold or hot out, the kit will list the ideal temperature under which to perform the repair.4. Says: My mom has the same problem..
Superglue WONT WORK. You can try it, but my mom has tried all types and it still won't work..
Right now she has it on with lots of duct tape, but you have to fix it now and then.
I think the only for sure way is to take it in and get it fixed, but that costs a lot... so we just use duct tape!5. Says: there is rearview mirror glue at any auto parts store,,,but ive tried to stick them but never had luck in 40 years of trying6. Says: Lots of glass shops do it as a "free service" or very little cost. Super glue only lasts a short time. Tag: Reattaching a rear-view mirror?
