2003 Ford Focus bad EGR Valve?
(2011-06-25 14:20:33) 1. Says: I have a 2003 Ford Focus LX 2.0LDoes this sound like a possible bad EGR Valve?
When first started it idles fine, but after driving for 15-20 minutes it starts idling rough, and feels like it is going to stall, but only has once. It also feels like the car has no power, feels like it takes forever to accelerate. Also after running for 15-20 minutes if I come to a stop my oil light will flicker on and off, and the car once again feels like it is going to stall....the oil light doesn't happen every time but does happen frequently...
The check engine light is on, but I did have the cats removed so I know that triggered it...The car has been running like this even when it had the cats....
Thanks!2. Says: This is pretty common problem with the 2.0L motor, this is definately a vacuum leak, check the PCV elbow below the throttle body (the rubber usually will split) causing a huge vacuum leak! As for the oil light I would suspect a faulty oil pressure switch, but also with the vacuum leak the idle could be dropping low enough to cause the switch to close! Repair the vacuum leak and retest. ADDED: There is no PCV code but, if it has a vacuum leak it will set a P0171 (system lean bank#1) Also the EGR valves rarely fail on the 2.0L the DPFE (differential pressure feedback egr) sensor is usually the problem!3. Says: Sounds more like a bad or dirty Mass Airflow Sensor.
You can diagnose and clean this yourself by following the instructions on the links below:4. Says: The egr makes your engine re-burn you exhaust. however if its stuck on it will feel like its killing the engine. On my pickup i was able to block it off however it will never be able to pass a smog check or inspection Tag: 2003 Ford Focus bad EGR Valve?
