Car will start but won't move when I give it gas?

1. Alex B Says: I was merging onto the highway and started to accelerate fairly quickly. I got up to about 110/120 kmph and then my car started to slow down while my foot was on the gas, my check engine light soon, parking break and windshield fluid light all came on also. I pulled over to the shoulder and attempted to restart the car, it would start but when I shifted into drive I could not give the car any gas and it wouldn't move. Any idea what problem it could be? I drive a 2003 Nissan Altima with around 210k clicks on it. I hope it's not the transmission but if it is how much would it cost me?
2. Existence Says: Take it to your mechanic. Have them check the Mass Air Flow Sensor... 9/10 its that.
3. -- Says: It could be a number of things - spark plugs, fuel injection, even your transmission. You should get a pro to look at it - pricey, but by the time you self-diagnose a few times it will save you in the long run. Replacing the transmission completely could cost a few grand sometimes - go for a rebuilt or used transmission if you have to replace it
4. Marcus Ververakis Says: When that happened to my car, it was just petrol. And when i filled it up, it worked for a little while then stopped again.
Then what i did was, checked the spark plugs, some times they get really dirty and they wont let the car run.
And also if it starts, let it just idle for 5-10 minutes.. try that
5. norski Says: Have a qualified mechanic check and diagnose your car. He has professional equipment for this specific purpose. Trying to guess and throw parts at it can get real pricey and aggravating as well as unsuccessful. Good luck.
6. Tractor Says: The reason all the lights came on is because the engine died. I'd say you have a transmission problem. In most cases the transmission is the most expensive repair.
7. bandit_60 Says: you give it gas and it won,t move? check the fluid in the transmission. if it,s full then it could be the filter or the transmission itself. your looking at several bucks for another transmission.
8. Peter Says: sounds like the transmission went out, but check your transmission fluid and make sure its red and full get the check engine light scanned for codes that will tell you exactly is wrong with the car
9. camarofanatic1233 Says: you got water into your electrical system. disconnect the battery and let the car air out for a couple days.
10. DK Says: That sounds like the transmission which will be expensive.
