2000 Dodge Durango 5.9 engine chirping/squeaking?

1. Dominic Says: You can hear it at idling but after driving it down the road and back i couldn't hear it. The belt is brand new. Only while driving it or pressing on the accelerator the noise got louder and faster. I am also leaking power steering fluid...could this have anything to do with it? Thanks
2. Jordan Says: Your could be a pulley bearing, or if your power steering fluid is low, the power steering pump will make noise similar to what you are describing. One other possibility is that your belt tensioner spring has gotten worn out and is not providing proper tension on the belt, which can cause it to chirp or squeal a little, and will sometimes go away once the belt gets warmed up and starts gripping the pulleys better.

I would check the power steering pump first, make sure your fluid is full and see if the noise stops. If it continues, i would check your bearings, which ever one the noise is coming from and has slop in it (wiggles around a little) would be the bad one. They also often generate a lot of heat due to friction from the bad bearing. If all bearings appear to be in good working order, your belt tensioner is likely the culprit.
3. Jason H Says: One of the bearings in a pulley that the belt wraps around is worn out. The real question is which one. Sometimes the easiest way to find out is to take the belt off and turn each pulley by hand to see which one makes the most noise and has the most play in it.
