Do you think my van will make it?
(2011-07-11 14:25:03) 1. Says: Im moving, and the only car that i have that's not a compact that has a hitch is a 98 plymouth grand voyager, and ill be toeing a trailer its a 4'X8' from uhaul. I has a lot of work done to it including new heads, head gasket, radiator, water pump, serpentine belt, timing belt, and the transmission was rebuilt by AAMCO all since september, it drives good i need new tires breaks are ok, the trip is 1300 miles form Pinellas county fl to suffolk county ny,2. Says: Towing is hard on transmissions, so my first concern would be to make sure you have nice, new, clean transmission fluid in there and it's topped off at the specified full level. I have never heard anything really good about AAMCO, so if it were me, I would baby that thing all the way to New York. You may be ok though. Also, you mention your tires are due to be replaced. If you can't afford to replace them before your trip, just make sure they are at the correct inflation pressure and maybe take extra care when driving in inclement weather. Towing + bad tires + wet weather = bad juju. So be careful. Of course, make sure the rest of your fluids are ok and check your belts. If your van is running ok now, I'd say there's good odds you should be ok for the trip, with a little preparation like I said. Good luck.3. Says: Check to see if you have a transmission cooler for towing they are good. Most vehicles have them some don't though. If you don't you'll have to find out how far you can tow something before you have to stop to let motor cool down so it doesn't over heat and damage something. Ask at dealership or Uhaul if they think the rear springs and coils are strong enough to hold up to pulling the trailer so far. Do you have trailer light hook ups?If its all good your set. Just make sure you have all fluids topped up and extra jugs of water just incase. Spare tires for van and trailer. Never add cold or luke water to hot motor though. Let it cool down then add water if needed.
Good luck. Drive safe.4. Says: You should be good to go...see if you can get some good used tires...5. Says: It should, either way, your not going to leave it. Tag: Do you think my van will make it?
