Can u still get taxed if u buy a car from a person instead of a dealer?

You only pay state tax when the car is sold by a dealer. Your state may be different.2. Says: California, you will pay use tax before they let you register at the DMV. If you paid sales tax at a dealer, the DMV will not charge the use tax. So they get you either way.3. Says: Yes, but you don't pay it to the person you're buying it from. You will pay the sales tax at the DMV or County Clerk.4. Says: You will have to pay the tax when you go to register the title.
