2000 passat air conditoner doesnt work when the car idles?

1. pinky112203 Says: It works great ,nice and cold when your driving but if you stop at a light a stop sign or just stop period and the car is idling then it blows out warm humid feeling air, but as soon as you start driving again nice cold air, I actually have to turn the air down when im going down the interstate because its so cold, it blows hard to , so Idk what to do here . I just know with these over 100 degree temps getting stuck in traffic gets way to hot in that car. Any suggestions on what it could be and what it would cost to fix it, what parts I might need?

2. mark32937 Says: Look under the hood, there's a big fan on the radiator. Is it spinning when the A/C is on? My guess is it's not, and this is what needs to be fixed. The fan pulls air across the A.C condenser when you are stopped at a red light, which allows condensation to happen. When you start moving, momentum of air pushing through the front grille is doing the work and your A/C works fine.

3. Dan Says: Probably your idle assist solenoid. It may be bad, loose, blow fuse, or out of adjustment. Does your car idle slow or badly when A/C on?

Could also be loose belt to compressor. Do you hear any squeal when A/C on? If it gets plenty cold with a little more gas, probably the A/C system itself isn't the problem.
