Diesels last longer than petrols because they are built stronger and the fuel is a lubricant as opposed to petrol which is not. If fully synthetic oil is used at the recommended intervals a diesel will outlast a petrol by about three times, sometimes more.2. Says: they do go longer ...i own a garage ...my renault van needs a service every 18.000 miles ..its begger brother every 24.000 miles ...but this is using fully synthetic oils ..and its vital all filters are changed ..higher milage seems to apply to europe more than north america ...here they change circa 6.000 miles ..petrol engines rev much higher than a diesel .i my self would never go beyond 10.000 miles without an oil change on a petrol engine3. Says: In the past Diesel engines needed more regular servicing.I don't know about the latest engines, you would need to check with manufacturer.5. Says: Generally they need more frequent service.
