Pro and con of leather seating in new car?
(2011-07-24 14:30:07) 1. Says: IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY LAST LONGER. I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty with cloth seats in excellent condition. My friend's 2004 Silverado with significantly fewer miles has leather seats which are showing significant wear--even wearing away completely in some places. As far as pros/cons, here's what I have found:PROS:
1. Looks nice
2. Prestigious
3. Some leather seats are designed with more cushioning than their cloth counterparts in the same model of car making them more comfortable.
4. Many have the option of heated seats
CONS:
1. Can be uncomfortably hot or cold when left outside which is not the case with cloth seats. In the summer, the seats can be so hot as to make them painful to touch when the vehicle is left in the sun.
2. Some leather used by car manufactureres (GM in particular) does not hold up well.
3. More expensive--sometimes is around $1500 more.2. Says: == if you want leather then buy that in your new car === after a few years you can switch to a cool fabric ====== the climate that you live in is the rule of leather or cool fabric =====3. Says: Leather is neat.
I like it on used cars in cold weather.
On a new car, you will pay $1000-1500 more and in hot weather, its not as comfortable as fabric.4. Says: It lasts longer, but can get very hey on nice days5. Says: Looks nice/sticks to you in hot weather. Tag: Pro and con of leather seating in new car?
