1. Niraj Sandeepa Says: Only serious answers please . Thank you
2. Xex Says: If you ask them if it burns oil and if you can stop that you would probably be laughed out of the dealership. It burns oil by design, it is injected into the combustion chamber to lubricate the rotor.

Its not hard to figure out if the car is in good working order or not. Have a Mazda dealership do a compression test, it might cost you $150 but thats better than buying a 13k car thats on its way to needed a new engine. When they do the test ask for the exact numbers it tested at and what rpm the test was done at. Then goto rx8club.com and search about compression tests, there are posts saying what is failed and what is still good but pretty much 6-ish and below at 250 rpm will be a failed engine.

Make sure everything else is in good working order, take it to any mechanic for that. They may not know about the engine but if they cannot tell you if there are any problems with the car(other than the engine) then they are a fail mechanic.

Read everything you possibly can on rx8club.com there are stickys in every forum which will answer most any questions you may have. Make sure you are ready to care for the car or it will bite you in the ***.
3. Muff Cabbage Says: 1. don't ask the dealer, they'll bs you for weeks. they're not out to give you the truth, they're out to make money.
2. find someone that knows these cars, there's plenty of rotary Mazda forums out there. these are full of people that know these cars in-and-out, you'll get much better answers there than most other places.
3. a good question i'd have would be whether or not it burns a lot of oil. the old RX-7's had a serious issue with this. despite their small engine displacement, the Wankel rotary engine uses a lot of gas and eventually eats into the oil supply. in the case of the older RX-7's, this put excessive stress on the engines and most of them wouldn't last past 150k.

i know it's a cool car, but rotaries are complicated and you can save yourself a lot of grief by exploring your other options. check out a Honda S2000 or a Nissan 350Z. the S2000 only has 10hp less than the RX-8, but it weighs a lot less and gives better performance because of which. Honda's been making excellent four-cylinder engines for decades, and i can honestly say it will last you a lot longer than the Mazda(plus you'll save on gas). the 350Z is also a good overall car, you can get a decent one for a little over 10 grand these days.
4. roger Says: I suggest you rethink your plan, the rx 8 did not live up to expectations in fact there has been great concern as some engines seemed to run pretty good, while others had excessive oil consumption when new and have not lived up to performance objectives from the factory nor longevity expectations. Add to that a dealer only repair shop (as well as parts) means if you are away somewhere and not near a dealer a breakdown could be a costly tow bill, without AAA coverage of somekind. I have read about as much information that is available for both the wankel rx 7 and even with some expensive modifications the power available is limited severely and rx7 owners now have available a chevy 350 swap kit available for those who like the rx7 style. I suggest going to carcomplaints.com and seeing what information is available and you can type ":mazda rx8 ? " in the web search box and find out more information
5. ? Says: well i've always heard good things about the rotary engine but i've never owned one my self but a mechanic told me once that a rotary engine is a very good engine that it can turn alot of rpm and run for ever but idk if its true or not but my uncle ain't never been wrong about engines
