I changed my oil but didn't change the filter?
(2011-07-28 14:20:13) 1. Says: I didn't really think about it. I just picked up some oil at the store and changed it. Is it a big deal that I didn't? Can I just buy some more oil and a new filter and do it again?2. Says: thats pretty much how it works you already changed the oil, the quart of used oil in the filter is just going to mix with the fresh oil the first time you drive and the clean oil will look dirty pretty quick. its not going to damage anything but its always a good idea to change the filter too.3. Says: If the last oil filter was changed long back you SHOULD replace that. Reason being, the oil filter still has some old oil in it. That will recirculate and contaminate ( if the old oil was too bad) the fresh oil.But if you have not driven too much -quickly remove the filter and replace with new one. It will spill out some oil ( should not be more than a qt ). you can fill that up again.
Again, unless you old oil was too dark/bad its not necessary to replace the oil which you just put. Recommendation will always be replace all the engine oil if money is not a problem.4. Says: just replace the filter and add enough oil to replace the oil that was in the old filter no big deal its the filter that removes the impurities from the oil
dont waste new good oil, it will be fine if you change the filter and add the amount the filter held
also btw its change the filter every six months and oil once a year the filter will clean the oil but the oil will not clean a filter so common sense kicks in and now we think how much are those engine bearings are gonna cost to replace when i left the dirty filter on and the bypass opened because it was plugged and the dirt and metal shavings just keep circulating through my oil passages until it ruined your engine if your gonna be cheap why not change a $5 filter instead of wasting $20 worth of oil and a ruined engine.because you listened to a bunch of guys who did not understand the term "oil filter"
good luck5. Says: It completely depends on the frequency of oil change and filter condition. If the oil is changed at regular intervals and Filter condition is good than it can run for one more cycle, but if the oil change is not as scheduled than there are high chances of filter damage too...

Says: you don,t have to drain the oil to change the filter because your oil is laying in the bottom of the oil pan when you shut it off and just change the oil filter but pick up another quart because once the filter gets full it will be low.7. Says: the filter only holds so much debris but with the systems in most newer cars and trucks, that should not be close to pushing the limits. i would go back and do another oil change and replace the filter just to make sure.8. Says: Just change the filter and top off the oil after you should of bought it together then you save money Cus most auto part stores have deals for oil changes you should change your oil every 3000 miles or every 7500 miles on newer cars9. Says: change the oil and the filter at the same time. best is buy miles if you drive 1000 miles in 3 months well your oil will be fine. But if you drive 3000 miles in 1 month well you see where im going?10. Says: it depends on how long its been since you've changed the filter. i recomend changing the filter once a year, and changing the oil once every six months11. Says: sure. it's no big deal.12. Says: yes do it again cool Tag: I changed my oil but didn't change the filter?
