Steven Says: well i have a 1995 subaru liberty with a short shift kit installed and a wrx gearbox installed by the last owner and since i bought it, the gear leaver has always had a bit of play/movement when it was in gear driving, but last night it became really free. so free that you could watch the gear leaver move from side to side going around corners. it also wont go into 3rd or 4th gear if you try and do a fast hard gear change, it just grinds and you have to go back to second or 5th and then go back to 3rd but this usually doesnt happen unless your really rough or trying to do it. but it is really loose and moves all over the pace when its in gear driving and im getting worried about the gearbox as i only just bought it. any ideas about whats going wrong ???

I <3 my Suby. Says: There are a couple of bushings, one at the bottom of the shift lever and one to the rear that over time can become worn and cause this issue. I have Kartboy bushings that feel really tight so maybe give that a try. http://www2.kartboy.com/x4/product.php?productid=16139&cat=253&page=1. I would shoot them an email to make sure they are compatible with the transmission and short shift kit in your car first.
