If i rod out my catalytic converter.will my service engine soon light stay on is there a way to make it go out?

2. D Says: Of course the CEL will be on, because there will be no valid signal from the oxygen sensor. It's not that expensive to replace the converter with a generic one at at muffler shop, and that's what I suggest you do to keep it legal and running right.

Are you sure it is the catalytic converter that is causing the light to be on? There are many other reasons the light could be on. Have a mechanic check the computer code to find out which code is causing the light to be on. Then fix the problem.

If you go punching a rod in your converter you will ruin it and it will be an expensive repair. It will have to be repaired before you can pass inspection.
4. Nomadd Says: That will make it worse. The light is on because the oxygen level is the same before and after the cat, so the computer knows it's not working.
5. norski Says: If your cat converter needs replaced and is the specific cause of the light coming on then rodding it out won't help a bit.
