1. Cale Says: Looking at 1985-1994 toyota pickups. I think the 85 is my favorite body, with the black, plastic grille. I don't like the chrome grilles on the 1986-1988, although I have seen these years with the black grille like on the 85s I usually see. Which one of these years would you recommend and why? I hope on getting one with a 22re and 4x4.
2. Click here, read profile please Says: None of them. I never tell people to buy low quality unreliable trucks. I wouldn't be much of a friend if I did now would I ??

Since you are brainwashed and think we are trolls here enjoy reading some facts if you have backbone enough (Which I doubt) to read truth: http://www.toyotaframerust.com/

Proof in the link that they not only break down they BREAK IN HALF!!!
3. Giggity Giggity Goo (Chris G) Says: I wouldn't buy any of them, get a Nissan Hardbody instead.
4. Colin Sweeting Says: I like the 1985
5. Terrence B Says: Okay, this Combat Vet is getting his jollies off of browsing the Toyota forums and continuously bashing Toyota every chance he gets. what he failed to realize is the rusty frame trucks are the "Made in America"- not the older "Made in Japan Trucks. Toyota Tacomas- which came after the years you are looking for. To answer your question, any year is a good year. However, 1985 and newer 22REs used a different head than the 1984 and they are not interchangable. You're talking about old school Toyota quality. The grill you're talking about was part of the optional Chrome Package- which mostly the higher end models had. It included chrome bumpers and on certain years, chrome mirrors and door handles. Those are usually the Value Pakage and SR5 models. The less equipped models had the black grilles. Still you can always swap out the grill if you like the rugged look of the black grille and a better equipped truck.
6. Jhunt Says: I agree with everything Terrance B said....
7. Gene R. Z Says: These made-in-Japan Toyota pickups are all excellent. I have a fondness for the 1994; however, if you live in a more rural setting, you may have to pay $2,000 - $4,000 more than blue book value (if you can find one on the local market), as Toyota's reputation for quality has become quite pervasive.

You should have little hesitation to purchase a well-maintained 1983 Toyota pickup, as AutoOnInfo.net's detailed computations suggest that a typical 25-year-old Toyota should be about as troublesome to own as a typical 5-year-old General Motors vehicle and a typical 29-year-old Toyota should be about as troublesome to own as a typical 6-year-old General Motors vehicle.

As an aside, Toyota pickups account for 4 of the Top 25 of AutoOnInfo.net's High Mileage Roster and the Toyota Tacoma pickup accounts for another. In short, Toyota's pickups account for 20% of AutoOnInfo.net's Top 25.
