How to tighten alternator belt (tension bolt, pivot bolt, etc)?
(2011-08-18 14:20:17) 1. Says: My alternator has 2 pivot bolts and 1 bolt that has teeth (think it's called tension bolt). How do I tighten the belt? I tried moving the tension bolt clockwise and counter, but it wouldn't move. So then I loosened the nut on the back of it. Then it just spun in place. What am I missing here?
I feel like just using a pry bar to create tension on the belt and then just tightening all 3 bolts. And not even messing around the tension bolt.
Also, do I use a torque wrench on the tension bolt? My car book says to tighten the belt to something like 30 lb-ft. (I made that number up)2. Says: losen all 3 bolts all the way.put the belt on it proper, look at the diagram on hood some where.then tighten the tension bolt(i thing its the longest one,ull know cause ull see the belt tighten)tighten this bolt 90%.then other 2 bolts tighten to 95%.finially tighten the tension bolt and then the other 2.3. Says: I remember always useing a BAR--to force the belt--tight..
Torgue..?
20-ft pounds is your least tight..(small bolts)
60-ft. pounds if very tight(larger bolts)
I think I would use 90-ft pounds for aluminum head/bolts..(huge long length bolts)
I most use hand tightening..
..and heavy wrenches. Tag: How to tighten alternator belt (tension bolt, pivot bolt, etc)?
