ANY help is appreciated thanx2. Says: 4 bolts, 2 lines, 2 castle nuts, and and 1 retaining pin. It's pretty simple for anyone who is mechanically inclined. A professional shop can change it in about an hour after it is in the air, your typical shade tree mechanic will do it in about 2-3 hours. This is one of the projects I would advise a novice to start with, You can plainly see what needs to be done by looking at the new part and comparing it with the old one, take it off, and then put it back together in the opposite way you take it off.3. Says: You get a lot of bang for the buck with this job. It is impressive but it is moderately easy. It is also usually dirty. The car must of course be raised on stands. The tie rods must be disconnected--preferably with a screw type tie rod tool you can borrow at Autozone. There are mounting bolts at either side and the all important connection to the steering wheel. You need a light to see what to do. There may be obstacles to remove on a particular car. When all these things are attended to the rack drops down. You can set the tie rods on the replacement rack to the exact number of turns on the old threads, getting back the alignment.4. Says: The actual work isn't difficult IF you have the necessary tools.
If you don't then you either won't be able to do it, or you will damage something and won't be able to drive the car at all.
For almost all people, it is far wiser to take it to a shop to have the work done and the required wheel alignment done at the same time.5. Says: not to bad,car needs to be jacked right up and stands put under for safety Tag: How difficult to replace rack&pinion?
