1. suzanne Says: There must be some way to down load the info from my car computer, so i can do my own diagnostic test. like is there some kind a adapter piece i could put on a flash drive to down load the info from my car then onto my computer. with out having to buy one of those diagnostic tester things i saw advertised on tv last night for 3 payments of 39.99. i have a 97 Ford Aspire. as i've been seeing online that it's not the greatest car by far, but to me it's been the greatest. i've had this car for 12 years and its never gave me any problems, other than a bad key design, but nothing last for ever so the check engine light has been on it says the code for 02 sensor. anyways i want to know if there is a way to get the info off my cars computer on my own. so does anybody know if there's a way around the diagnostic tester. i need to get my car to pass Smog. Please Help Me!!!
2. scrubbag Says: You could maybe borrow a tester from a parts store, ask them... which system yours is, depends on the year of the car....somewhere around the late 90s, the computer tests went from OBD I to OBD II, the last one being the most current...and has more information. Here is a web site that might help.

3. rick29148 Says: Yes, there is a computer interface, but it's probably more expensive then the car is worth. Try your local car parts store - Some will read the fault codes for free...
4. tike Says: you could try this e bay listing number- 150625282269
or go to obdcom.com
5. Howard L Says: You can buy a code scanner to download the codes stored in the computer but what many people fail to realize is that the code doesn't tell you what's causing the problem. The O2 sensor code for example only tells you the O2 reading is wrong. 9 times out of 10 it has nothing to do with the O2 sensor. It could be an air leak or an electrical problem causing the wrong reading. The code refers to a diagnostic procedure in the shop manual that needs to be run to determine what's causing the wrong reading. Without the proper diagnostic equipment you'll be throwing money away buying parts you don't need.
