Carol Kim Says: I broke a car's side mirror at a gas station. No one was in the car. I went out and apologized, and asked the driver how I can pay for that. He said about $20 will work it out, so I went into the gas station market to get some changes. I gave him $40 and he left without asking me for my information. I called police about 4 hours later (after work) and explained what happened, and she said there's nothing to report in that case. However I'm still worried. Am I going to be in trouble if he calls police later?

M Says: It was good from you that you called the police after that because your call was recorded while you was explaining the situation to the police so if the other guy called police later, you will have a prove that you called and so on... For your advice,, next time, hopefully there is no next time.. or any business you do .. Never give strangers a cash during a business.. If you want to pay a rent.. or anything.. Always pay Cheque .. because it is the only way that prove that you paid this amount of money to this person... otherwise there will be no evidence if you paid cash or no..

Boulder Guy Says: M nailed it, but you could pay in cash and get a receipt for the cash. Anything in writing with his name and license number would be helpful. You are not required to report an accident with less than $500 damage. You did well. Don't worry.

Fernando Wilkins Says: No giving him that money was like a settlement for the damage to his car, there is nothing else that can happen.

Gendo Says: No. You're fine.
