Have you checked for all the basic things like radiator core obstruction, water pump condition, stuck thermostat? Also is the fan belt tight? Any temperature switches for the fan also could be dead. The head and block surfaces also need to be checked for warpage.

If you plan on keeping it for a decent length of time my suggestion would be new head, water pump, and thermostat gaskets. flush the radiator (get it re-cored if is looking a bit sad), new thermostat, plus any thermo switch for the fan, new hoses and new water pump if the old one is in less than perfect condition. In short, replace the entire cooling system. In my experience, if you are replacing something within the cooling system you may as well save yourself future hassle and replace the whole dam lot.3. bandit_60 Says: did you check the head when you pulled it? it might be cracked to where you can,t see it. take it off and take it to a machine shop so they can check it out for any cracks. did you have the head shaved? it could be warped.4.
