What is the part of a car that makes it sound like a race car?
(2011-09-06 14:20:20) 1. Says: I bought a used car and want to have fun fixing it up. I would like that race car style sound but I don't know much about cars so I don't know what part that is called. Help would be appreciated. Thanks2. Says: take the stock muffler off and install a high flow muffler such as a flowmaster 40 series muffler.3. Says: As with most other answers given, the only aspect in which you can make your pride of joy "sound like a race car" is the exhaust system itself. This is the first part of any car modification to give the audio sense of something better than stock standard. Some people can change the muffler tip with a half modification which is cheaper but not always better. Since a full exhaust system is the better option because you are allowing more air flow thus increasing the performance not just sound which runs from the engine block to the back of the car that supposedly increases performance from 5 to 15% depending on the quality of the overall exhaust system. You can also get special exhaust systems to avoid the disruption of other motorists or pedestrians that might file a complaint against you for having a noisy exhaust, these special systems is a special inlet that with a press of a button inside your car can turn the noise back to stock standard.
A secondary option that most people do to beef up their car is to install a computer chip that over-rides the car's ECU to increase performance figures but it only affects fuel injected cars not carburetors. Furthermore, changing the air filter to the car with a K&N Filter or a Pod system which will also change the sound of the car as well. This will be a much cheaper option in changing the sound of the car, but it might not get that race car sound depending on how much sound suppressant material you might have in the engine bay.
Other changes, will be an intercooler and if a sudden urge to get a turbo charger or a supercharger upon the vehicle. But again, it depends on your budget.
To start off, you should look at getting either or both the full exhaust system change and/or the air filter to a Pod set up which looks like a funny looking mushroom.4. Says: Easiest/cheapest way is to get a different kind of muffler. A local mechanic, or even a car dealer mechanic could answer your question if they're nice.
For example, Harley Davidson motorcycles often use "Screaming Eagles" to get a special/load sound out of the bike. So I'm pretty sure a special muffler would do the same on a car.
In the 70's I think one type was called "Glass Packs"?
You could even just ask someone at Midas!5. Says: The muffler that is NOT on the race car. Your exhaust already makes the sound until the muffler eliminates it.6. Says: Depends on the car, some cars will sound like crap if you just throw a muffler on it
What year, make, model, and engine of the car???7. Says: the loud noise it the exhaust but the loping idle is from the valve over lap from the camshaft.8. Says: you don't have a car you have a auto stop making car's in 73 - 84 pd cars - mufflers9. Says: im not a street racer but i you might want to see different types exhauste of systems or mufflers.10. Says: The engine.11. Says: lol what? ricers like the one you want have a loud exhaust that make it sound like a race car12. Says: muffler13. Says: exhaust system14. Says: dont do that crap to a car only a truck that crap is annoying15. Says: can not tell you because i think they sound stupid Tag: What is the part of a car that makes it sound like a race car?
