Better car in city as well as occasional highways driving ?

Priorities are safety,economy,handling,performence,fuel efficiency,road manners and presence,. shortlisted cars are Honda Civic,Toyota Corolla Altis Petrol and Diesel,Skoda Laura , New Jetta and Honda city. is auto transmission good for city driving ? Also whether altis diesel is severely underpoweered or it just ggod enough? My budget is about 15 to 17 L. Commuting pattern is daily city traffic about 25 kms and occasional outdoors for about 1000 kms. Pls suggest.

25 km daily in city traffic justifies an automatic car. Honda Civic is an allrounder but it is not available in Diesel version (If you prefer petrol car then Civic will be ideal), Toyota focused in efficiency instead performance in the Corolla Altis Diesel, and it shows in its performance and fuel economy(Altis diesel not available in auto transmission), it is not planted in highway as Civic or Laura, new Jetta improved a lot in every aspect from current jetta but, VW will be expensive to service and maintain.
Honda city, the best seller in Honda stable, a well performer and since honda slashed it's price become good buy but it not comes in civic or altis segment. A petrol auto sedan under ten lakh with reasonable price and performance.
