Battery troubles with my car!? help!?
(2011-09-17 14:20:06) 1. Says: I'm seventeen years old and have my first car... driving it for a while, needed a new battery. My parents just divorced two weeks ago so my dad lives quite a bit away but he bought me a new battery and came over and just installed iit. When I went to start the car it just made a weird clicking noise... its standard so I roll-started it and he told me to leave the car running for half an hour to charge the battery. Now he is gone and I am alone with a running car and I wanna make sure that it will start when I turn the car off... anyone know if his assumption is right??2. Says: You will only know after half an hour or longer. Generally I go for a drive as it charges better than at idle speed. Not saying hitting the freaking freeway to fly along at a frantic pace. But patrol the neighborhood type of thing. Go down those back alleys so you can say "bendaredundat" After a half hour or so take the car home and put in your driveway, right where you want it to be "just in case" For you are making the assumption that the alternator works and regulator works.Dad did not buy a new battery because stores charge up the new batteries before they are given to the customer.
Or you have a problem with the starter motor. or starter solenoid.
After half hour or longer and car is in position "just in case" shut it off. Now try to start it. If it starts once it should do it again in the morning. So shut it off. and all electrical off and lock it up.. Maybe you want to park the car so it can roll downhill, just in case it is a weak battery or a bad starter or a bad alternator so it will be your first expense. Get used to it. Almost as bad as a girlfriend.(and you know how poor they can make you)3. Says: a car idling will NOT charge the battery,,DRIVE it,,,
the clicking is a bad battery connection or bad starter solenoid..
Drive it to any auto parts store for a FREE test of battery,,starter..and alternator Tag: Battery troubles with my car!? help!?
