2002 ford focus noise around wheel?
(2011-09-21 14:20:08) 1. Says: just replaced brake pads and rotors on my wheels, everything in place and perfect, but when i took it for a drive i hear this weird sounding noise coming from the front right wheel. i jacked it up and checked if the wheel bearing was messed up by using the 12 and 6 method on the wheels, checked my rotor and caliper and all that, but still when i drive seems to have a weird snapping, grinding, clapping noise that sounds really annoying. feels as if something were rubbing or compressed together too much but i doubt it. please help2. Says: Check to make sure the brake pads on the passenger side wheel are positioned properly and don't move around freely. And look at the plate/splash guard on your new rotor to see if it is bent. I've heard similar situations as yours from people who ended up realizing that this plate was bent and causing the sound.3. Says: THANKS ALL =] will check this out first thing in the morning 4. Says: If you could jack up the car, turn the wheels to diagnose the problem. Cracking noise - wheel bearing. Jerk the wheels - ball joint. Inspect the CV boots, if broken, squeeze grease into the CV-joint and test drive.Actually, durng the above process, you can grease the upper and the lower ball-joints. But you need a grease gun and a grease needle.5. Says: Make sure your slider pins and all the contact points where the pads slide are lubricated with brake lube. Maker sure you pushed the caliper back all the way as i'm sure you did. Sounds like you have may have a condition where the pad isn't backing off and rubbing. Or the spring keeping your pad in place is wore out? did you replace the hardware with the pads? If not, check those, clean em up so the pads slide as they should.
Sometimes brakes are a pain and you miss one step which messes it up.
Good luck
I agree with BEN 100%.. i've seen many times the dust shield being bent in the process of doing brakes and it will rub slightly with the rotor. Bend it away with a hammer and flat head screw driver. I'll bet that is your problem. You will see a shiny wear mark where it's hitting/ rubbing.6. Says: could be something to do with steering, not very sure. Tag: 2002 ford focus noise around wheel?
