Do people prefer to travel by car in USA ? Do people night halt in personal car for long distance travel ?
(2011-10-01 14:25:09) 1. Says: By car is pretty common. In some locations there are Rest Areas where it is ok to sleep in a car, but it will say that the area is secured. I have slept in a lot of Rest Areas and just taken my chances and not had any SERIOUS problems. One time the car next to me smashed into my door with their door while I was asleep and that was not good.I would think twice about just pulling over on a quiet street and sleeping overnight. I have done that too but you have to be pretty savvy about evaluating the safety of the area you are in. Plus it would be illegal in many cases.2. Says: It really depends on the person and where you are going but for me, a car is the way to go no matter where I go.
You arrive at the airport, you buy an overpriced plane ticket, you get your crotch checked by the TSA either by hand or with a machine that gives you cancer, you sit in there for 3 hours or 5 depending on whether your flight is delayed or you stay the night if it is cancelled, you find your plane gate, you get on your plane, you find your seat among the hundreds of seats crammed into a tube with wings, you wait for an hour while the pilots check for Lord knows what, you wait in flight, and you arrive at your destination. And really, in the US, your options are car and plane.
Now I'm sorry but I think that is the stupidest way to travel. Travel should be about relaxation and taking a break from the usual day-in day-out routine and it should be a memorable experience. In fact driving used to be a popular pastime, especially in the west. You'd wake up at 6 on a Saturday, you got into the family car, Dad drove around 'til his foot felt like a rock... No where to go. No where to be. Nothing to worry about.
However, in the 1970's when the Middle East wouldn't sell us oil, people stopped driving around pointlessly and now its just the same because the price of gasoline is so high. It's a part of our culture that has been abolished by our own thirst of oil, and its a bit sad.
So yes, we prefer to travel by car, but sometimes its just so damn expensive we are willing to trade in fun to save a couple bucks in exchange of grief and misery...
And some people night halt... I don't. It just depends how long this long distance trip is and how many Starbucks you run into on the way.3. Says: Oh yes - lots of fun to go on a "road trip" - you just go and drive where ever you want and see what ever you want. It costs a lot more now than it used to because of the fuel prices. But it's still a great vacation.
And yes - some people just pull over to the side of the road and fall asleep.4. Says: Yeah most people here either take road trips or fly if you have the money. Not sure what you mean by night halt?5. Says: of course Tag: Do people prefer to travel by car in USA ? Do people night halt in personal car for long distance travel ?
