(2011-10-03 14:20:09) 1. Says: 2002 Dodge Durango 4x4 (AWD) 4.7L V8, Gets only 10.6-10.9 MPG , EPA Estimates 14 Combined using the new formula and 15 Combined using the old. ill Say around 65% Freewway Driving. The reading are based on the Overhead computer. Also had a tuneup done last month plugs, Filter,. No change !!2. Says: Dodge Durangos were notoriously bad for fuel mileage. The EPA mileage figures were extremely optimistic, and very few BRAND NEW cars ever actually meet those specs. Your car is a 10-year-old 4x4. Be happy that it still runs.If you want to get a better picture of your actual gas mileage, then don't use the on-board 'computer'
Fill up the gas tank, and record the miles shown on your odometer, or set the trip odometer to zero. Drive normally for a month or so and keep track of how much gasoline you put in the car. At the end of the month, take the total miles you have driven and divide by the number of gallons of gasoline you have used. That's your actual miles per gallon for the month.
NOW, do something about your driving habits. Don't speed on the freeway! Run the posted speed limit or below. Avoid rapid starts and stops. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, and remove any excess junk you carry in the car to reduce weight. Get rid of those big knobby 4x4 tires and put on something more appropriate to the type of driving you are actually doing. If you're not using it, take the roof rack off.
Your car may NEVER see the EPA fuel mileage figures, but you can do things on your own to help get better mileage.3. Says: yes its normal...these v8 are gas sucking, wallet draining beasts........buy a toyota or economy car... Tag: Bad MPG on Dodge Durango ?
