Best mods for 1980 camaro?
(2011-10-04 14:15:12) 1. Says: Well I decided going with a 383 stroker wasn't the best idea. So I'm sticking with my 350 v8. But I still want to have more power. Maybe just a cam and new valvtrain? I know some good sites like Jegs and Summit Racing, but I'm not sure on what to go with. Any ideas would be great! thanks!2. Says: The 80 camaro 350 engine had 190 HP and 8.2:1 compression stock. It used the sorry 882 smogger heads, with 76cc chambers, and 10cc pistonsA great mild combo thats been used and proven many times is
fel pro 1094 head gaskets
96-00 vortec 350 heads
fel pro MS98000 intake gaskets
204/214*@.050" cam
Edelbrock performer vortec intake
600 cfm carb
Recurve the HEI dist with 1 light and 1 med springs
Set timing to 14* before TDC
Hooker or hedman long tube 1-5/8" tube headers
Dual 2.25" pipes
2.25" X pipe
2 good flowing mufflers
The vortec heads has a smaller 62-63cc fast burn design chamber plus very high flow ports. Best flowing gen 1 production sbc head. That and the 1094 gaskets will bring compression from 8.2 to 9.75:1
The above combo will get you in the 325-350 HP range
You can pick up used vortec heads all the time off craigslist, ebay or local junkyard for $200-400.
You can use a generic cam like elgin, speed pro/sealed power, summit brand, etc $80-110 for cam and lifters.
The head gaskets are about $55
Intake gasket set is $65
Last fall I made a good craigslist score for vortec heads for my 355 for my S10.
$350 vortec 062 casting full heads, comp cams 1.6 ratio self alining roller tip rockers, edelbrock performer intake and GM performance parts chrome center bolt valve covers.3. Says: Best mod would be sell off as junk/scrap and buy a real Camaro 67-69 and or a 70 1/2 split nose Camaro and start over...
Best color combo is the Hugger Orange paint scheme...
