Kwik Fit Mot rip off?

(2011-10-06 14:20:20)
1. Olderwiser Says: I have used Kwik Fit before for exhaust and stuff they were pretty good. But went to get my MOT done after being lured in by a cheap MOT offer, and it was failed on brake calipers. The quoted price for two of them is £345 checked elsewhere five minutes later I am getting quotes half the price already, did anyone have any bad experiences?
2. martysmith1892 Says: I worked for kwik rip for about 10 days and was encouraged to defraud people of thier hard earned cash! they offer low wages and good bonus based on what you can sell ! Get your car checked els where and you will prob find nowt wrong with it .............i left them sharpish cos not in my nature to rip people off and now have my own garage with a good customer base
3. xs.essex Says: My local garage failed my car on sticking brake callipers, then freed them and lubricated them and passed it, charging me about £25 for the repair job. That was Pearse Suzuki in Chelmsford who I have always found reliable and trustworthy. They too offered a discounted MOT test so, overall, I was a good experience. Not all calliper faults require full replacements. It is worth getting a second opinion and, if necessary, getting the work done elsewhere before returning the car for a retest within the 'free' period. It might even be worth getting it re-MOT'd elsewhere. What you pay extra in MOT fees is likely to be offset by lower repair costs. I've seen some bad press about Quik Fit lately which is a shame because, years ago, they were OK.
4. Fairdo4all Says: Kwik Fit seem to be getting quite a reputation for this sort of thing. Find a small local garage that has been established for a long time, chances are the callipers only need a thorough cleaning etc.

Bazza, your comment that all garages are crooks is both stupid and wrong. For smaller garages repeat business is their bread and butter and pays the bills, you do NOT get repeat business by ripping people off. Rip one guy off and he will tell all his mates and everyone he meets. Do a good job and he will recommend you to his mates. Where the problem (and likely where you get your viewpoint from) is that the garage is looking at what 'needs' to be done, the average customer is looking for the cheapest way to get or keep the car moving. They are different things.
5. EvelynThe ModifiedDog. Says: KwikFit are the biggest shower of rip off merchants out there.
NEVER take a car to KwikFit. Find a good local garage and use them.

Not all garages are crooks, most of them are just businesses run by people trying to do a good job. Most of the time the people who think they're being ripped off by a garage either have no idea how much it costs to maintain a car properly or they're just dumb@55es.

Or they're in KwikFit, in which case they ARE being ripped off.

Learn the lesson and thank your lucky stars they only tried to stiff you for £345.
6. B W G Says: they`ve been doing this for years, had a sierra (yeh that long ago) with nine thousand on the clock was told I need new pads by a friend , so off to Kwik Fit and he tells me I need new discs.
I said just fit the pads, his reply was well sir we can`t guarantee the pads as this would not be covered under our warranty. I said the car is six months old with a good bit of mileage.
Just took the car to a local guy and yes he said they were just exploiting the fact by scaremongering.
7. chewbaka87 Says: Ask them whats wrong with the calipers if they feed you a load of shite ask for a VOSA complaint form and tell them you be taking it down to your local HGV test station to get it checked over.
8. who_is_jack_**** Says: Wouldn't trust a Kwik$hit monkey to top up my washer bottle. They have always been the same so it is no surprise. Get the MOT done elsewhere and you will find it most likely will pass.
9. Bazza Says: That's not a bad experience. What you have described is a learning curve. All garages are crooks. It's just that some are more crooked than others.
10. Ron Says: Get a local small garage to check it out.Ask friends to recommend one if you don't know of one.The national co's only want your money.
11. dan d Says: Yes it can be normal as the tire balancing machines will balance your tires for about 120- 140 kms anything above that may cause a shake
