Help! I think I ruined my car by trying to clean my battery?!?
(2011-10-17 14:20:16) 1. Says: So my battery had a lot of corrosion. I watched a video on Youtube about how you can mix baking soda with water and pour it over the battery, then rinse it with water after scrubbing with a toothbrush. So I did that and went to go start my car, and it sounds all funky and won't start! OMG is it ruined?! I followed the directions. Could it be because it isn't dry yet???? :( The car is a 2009 Ford Focus, great car and engine, but the battery is sometimes get corroded.2. Says: remove and clean terminals,nothing would have shorted out3. Says: Yeah i know your able to clean your battery posts with baking soda but to do it right you have to remove your pos and neg battery cables and get your self a battery post cleaner. There not expensive and clean the posts and cables put them back on and you'll be good to go. If you have some grease or even Vaseline around put that on the post before putting the cables back on. That'll help keep your battery post from corroding4. Says: I'll tell you what exactly happened. When you were pouring the liquid the liquid splashedOnto both posts at the same time... Thus short circuting your entire car...All the fuses might have been blown in every area of your car... I would replace all the fuses first.... Hope that your stock fuses didn't blow (the ones with 3 or 4 prongs) bec Only dealers sell those....5. Says: wow. performing mechanical duties on your car... via youtube? you deserve whatever it is that has happened to your car. it sounds like you shorted out the whole electrical system to me. might as well just junk it and buy a new one...6.
