What's wrong with my car? When I turn it on, the engine tries to start but it won't turn over? Battery maybe?

1. Eden M Says: I have an 03 Jeep Liberty. I just got it fixed last Friday and drove it home, no problem. I haven't driven it since then, but today when I was trying to turn it on to put it in the garage, it won't come on. I tried to jump it with my mom's car (her battery is great) and we left it on there for over five minutes, but it did nothing to help. When I try to start it, the motor acts like it's trying to start but it won't turn over. There's no corrosion on the battery that I can see of, so I don't think it's that, but I honestly don't know. I just took it to the shop on Friday and spent nearly $1,000 fixing it up (the previous owner wasn't good with maintenance), and the mechanic never said anything was wrong with the battery, etc. It's in relatively good shape for a car.

So, my issue is, why won't it start? The lights don't even come on when I try to start it, or when I open my car doors (they turn on when I push them, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it). I just don't see how it could be the battery when I JUST went and got it fixed. It has been sitting outside, and the coldest it's gotten was around 35 degrees (but that was just for one night). 2. Evil C Says: Either the battery has a bad cell inside it, causing it to not receive or hold a charge, or the vehicle has a parasitic draw. I would take the battery out and get it load tested to see if it is still good or not. If the battery tests good, then have the car tested for a draw.

4. Sheepborg Says: The appearance of a battery is not always helpful. Actually check the battery or put it into a car you know works well that needs a similar battery and let that car run. If the battery is still really dead get a new one, but if it goes back to normal replace the alternator on your jeep. That is a quick and easy way to test.
