Need help in name change in car registration and car loan?

1. P Says: I legally changed my name last april and was able to change almost most of my documents.
My question is for my vehicle registration. I do not have the title yet cuz I still have 2 years to pay off my car so my financial institution has it. But then I tried to call them and they wouldn't update my old name to new. I was inquring on how to go about changing new name, they said once its signed you can't change it. Is that true? I mean its weird cuz I should be able to change that like in my other documents cuz I have legal paperworks. Also dmv spelled my old last name wrong in my registration card. I just want everything to match so I don't get questioned. I mean thank god, I haven;t done anything wrong to get pulled over but still all my identification is all with the new name except for my vehicle registration. If a police pull me over asking for my registration, it would not match my state id nor my proof of insurance. I need some professional opinions or advice. Thanks!

2. Chris B Says: Add a copy of your name change to your paperwork to be kept in your car. Things don't always work the way you think they do and it makes sense as well. You bought the car under a different name...they can't simply change the title, it would be illegal if they did.

3. Bill Says: Go to the DMV and inquire what is needed to change the name on the registration of a financed vehicle. You will need to present you new documents so they know you are not trying to commit fraud. Good Luck

My wife and I got married in 2010 and her car loan (bought in 2009), registration and title are still in her maiden name until the vehicle is paid off.
