1. jamminjake Says: Its a 1991 silverado with 78,000 miles on it. The noise sounds like its coming from the alternator but why would the alternator tick? what else could it be?
2. don r Says: Sicking, with a "T"? Ticking sound? Anything that rotates might become noisy as it wears out. As long as the alternator is working use it and don't worry much. It has brushes in it that will wear down. They are replaceable ($3 for the part) and 2 hours to put in and back on the car. Leave it until it quits.

Check your exhaust manifold. leaks there can make a ticking sound.
3. don r Says: Use Mechanic's Engine Flush and change the oil. Maybe a bad lifter is noisy . It might improve when cleaned with flush.. Remove all the belts and rotate each pully by hand. Note any binding.
4. Doug Moare Says: Sometimes it will do it if the oil is bad. If you change the oil and it still does it then it's most likely the valve lifters.
5. ? Says: something is wrong with it replace it.
6. Michael Larson Says: i dont know what you mean by sicking
