1. Hoar Starr Says: my coolant leaks and i plan on getting it fixed but theres many things that need to get done first. but my cars ac works but the heat doesnt. do you need coolant for it to work if not what could be the problem
2. Michael Says: The heater core requires hot coolant to give you heat, so yes, the car needs coolant for heat to work. A coolant leak is an emergency anyway. Overheating is one of the most common causes of engine destruction and coolant loss is the surest way to overheating. As long as it is leaking you have to check it often enough that you never have to add more than a pint of coolant, and *never* add tap water - it will quickly plug the radiator with hard water deposits that no flush will touch. Fixing this really has to be a high priority.
3. Ben Says: Yes, you need coolant to flow through your heater core. That is where your heat comes from. And yes, coolant is a vital part of keeping your engine running.. I should have mentioned that too!
4. ashersmasher2001 Says: um not to mention you need coolant to cool your engine so it doesnt over heat and result in major issues. (ex. warped head, blow up)
