1. mutha goose Says: somebody told me the handbrake is just a weak cable and if you pull the it too fast or if your going to fast it will snap. is that true?
2. Erol E Says: The answer you got is partially right. It is indeed not a very thick cable, but it is very strong and it is designed to last the life of the car. It would be a very rare occasion for a handbrake cable to break even under the circumstances that you describe. In other words, you could not snap that cable even if you tried every day.
Case in point, you might notice that the hand brake (emergency break) on minivans and some sedans are actually tied to a foot pedal. I attached a picture. You can imagine that the force that a driver would apply to this pedal, and thus the cable every time they push it would be more or less equivalent to what you are describing. Yet, it is connected to the same cable, and the cable does not break.
In short, the answer is no. I would not worry about snapping this cable if you pull your hand brake fast.
3. Jim Says: In all my experiences, a hand brake and/or an emergency brake is basically a joke. On my truck is has never worked properly, and despite countless of hours working on it it never will. Don't rely on them, they suck all the time in every single car.
4. ? Says: It's a parking brake, not to be used for slowing down. Put in on when you have stopped, and then stick the gear lever in to 1st gear as an extra precaution.
5. Dcl102a Says: It is weak and correctly known as the parking brake. Emergency brake? Hand brake? The pedal is way more effective.
