1. yomeguiolin Says: my drivers side driveaxle boot is covered in a lot of grease, i just noticed recently when i was working on my car, the grease i all around the boot, there is also some behind the caliper, there is some sort of cylinder right next to the caliper, i can't tell if it's for the brakes or if it's leaking, but i'm thinking it could be my boot that ripped and let out all that grease, it looks kinda greenish to the color
2. don r Says: For all the trouble don't waste time replacing boots on axles. If th egrease is out you can just about bet the cv joint is very worn. Replace the whole axle with a rebuilt axle. That way you get new boots on both ends, new cv joints and fresh grease inside. The rebuilt axle costs about $100 and takes about an hour to replace. If a mechanic rebuilds the old axle that will add about another hour labor, so replace the axle and you come out better in all ways.
3. John M Says: You got it... the grease in the boots are usually green or black. If it is ripped, the two piece kits are a rip off... You will need to pull the cv joint to replace it with a one piece boot. do not waste your time. replace the cv joint Assembly.
4. justice Says: Yup you have a hole in the boot and it is slinging out the grease. Before just replacing the boot check the price of a complete reman half shaft.
