Engine - Clicking sound when revving?

(2011-11-21 15:20:16)
1. John Says: It's a slight sound that I can hear when revving, almost like the sound you hear when you touch a fan.
I think something may be cracked, any ideas?
2. oneiloilokano Says: Only 3 things I know of in order:
1. Dirty oil and filter causing excessive noise due to lack of lubrication to the upper half of the motor.
2. Burned exhaust valves.
3. Worn out hydrolic lifers.

In order from most to least likely.
3. bake g Says: Have you put the hood up and tried to follow where the sound if coming from? You can also get under the car with it safely on jack stands and try listening where the sound is coming from. Check around the fan to see if something is rubbing on it. Sometimes the plastic shroud around the fan can come loose in an area and the fan could be rubbing it as it turns. If it is the torque converter bolts as another user said, you will hear it more when you are under the car. Of course its always a good idea to change your oil on time so change it if its due, and make sure the level is where it should be. Otherwise, its unlikely to be oil-related. Does it make this sound all the time or only when the fan comes on?
4. nitrobreath2000 Says: Check your drive belts for embedded foreign particles, like a rock stuck in the belt. Every time the belt goes around, the object rubs against the pulleys and makes a sound.

If you have an automatic transmission, the torque converter bolts may have come loose, or the flex plate suffered some damage, like cracking.

Good Luck
