Why does my car back fire?

(2011-12-04 15:20:11)
1. FEAR OF GOD Says: An actual backfire is pretty rare on a modern car unless you have done some serious under thought out mods to it. More likely you just have a miss fire which can also make a pop and makes the car shudder.

We need more information like year make and model?
How often it happens?
What exactly you are feeling or hearing?
How long it does it?
What do you do to make it quit doing it?
2. doornobk Says: Most common reason can be the engine time is off by several degrees of timing. Too advanced or too retarded timing can do this. Since newer cars have a set mechanical timing and the computer controls the timing advance then a boogered up sensor somewhere or bad computer can create this issue.

An engine diagnostic can identify the problem.

Good Luck!
3. CactiJoe Says: Usually, it is a burned intake valve. Combustion on the compression stroke, is pushing combustion out the intake valve, which causes the backfire.
4. silentblue Says: "Year & Mileage? DETAILS" Extremely Bad Timing, Bad Carb. Etc.
5. Paul Says: getting too much gas or out of time.
