Why do cars have less rpm ?

1. salman khan Says: when bike goes at 150km/hr it almost touches 9000 or 10000rpm . but a car go at 150km/hr or more at just 3000 or 3500 rpm . how can a car get so much power at lesser rotation of the crank shaft ?
2. Charly Brown Says: It is simple, because the engine power NEVERS moves the wheels, what moves the wheels is the power that transmission provides, and that power is amplified (on most gears), your tires receive much more power

You can use a car performance simulator to virtually tune your car and see how it would perform and learn more about gear ratios, try at http://www.nxgtrsim.com
3. Rosalie R Says: Well, gearing is one thing, but power is another. How big is the bike engine that generates that kind of speed. 750cc, 1000, 1250 what. The car you might be talking about will be 3.0, 4.2,5.0; as in 5,000.

A big V-8 (obviously with 8 cylinders) produces a lot of torque. This pure power comes from the cumulative size of all those cylinders. Your bike might wind up to 9,000 rpm and the car never will. But the car can get to 3,500 rpm with four people and a full 20 gallon gas tank and two sets of weights in the trunk.

There are exceptions, or course. The Ferrari and other hi-performance cars have V-12's that can match a bikes RPM. But they cost a million or so and you only find them on race courses. Parts that move that fast need to be carefully fit into an automobile. Imagine 12 cylinders at that speed.
How many valves going up & down?

Get the picture?
4. rick29148 Says: Vehicles are engineered to have the engine in it's power band at highway speeds. The power band of the engine is the range of rpm where it makes the most hp. On a car, the power band is 3,000 ~ 4,000, while motorcycles have to rev around 6,000 ~ 7,000 to make the most power.
5. tony Says: one word"gearing" your bike is geared to run in a higher rpm than your car. just think about your car turning that fast think of the gas it would use.
