Joshua Says: There is a truck listed in my area for sale and really cheap. all the extras, lifted, stereo, bells & whistles. Says it has a clean title and the ad also says the truck has a cracked transfer case. The ad said it is drivable. But i'm curious as what would happen if the problem went ignored before i went and dropped 1500 bucks on it lolz

roger Says: there is always more to these than meets the eye, it is not easy to crack a transfer case, expect a well beaten pos that needs a lot more work than a 3 or 4 grand transfer case. Operative word here is CHEAP. 1,500 IS NOT CHEAP. PASS ON EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS, its not worth it. inless you own a shop or a wrecking yard full of parts what do you plan to do? rebuild it in the driveway?

Scott Says: Big difference between a rock taking an impact chip out of the bottom, and a crack across a bearing support. Some fixes can be effected with a tube of good old JB weld, others require replacement of the whole case.

oneiloilokano Says: I agree with Roger. You really have to abuse a truck to crack the transfer case and there will be much more than just a simple case of replacing it, which is not an easy job btw.

bubba Says: what kind of truck transfer cases can get expensive. how was it cracked? are the internals good ? if its just that the case is cracked weld it so fluid doesnt leak.
